This year, I’m going to have a few guests to write a post on how they are living their best lives. We’re going to kick this off with Ms. Abby Clarke, the personification of a ray of sunshine! Without further ado, here she is!
Lovely, lovely Lucy has honoured me by asking me to write this post about living my best life, and whilst I am highly privileged to be asked, and I really do like to think that I am living my best life, I don’t think that I can take all the credit for it.
My parents were born and raised in Wolverhampton, both of them working hard to provide a life for me and my brother. In 2010, we moved to Zurich and both of my parents continued to work very hard to take care of us. With this opportunity, they showed us the world and for this, I will always be incredibly grateful.
When it came to moving away from home, I ended up picking the University of Kent, where I have tried to become more of an adult, but still find myself watching and loving Disney much more than the average 21-year-old! As a part of my course at Kent, I have had the opportunity to do a year abroad where I chose to come to Long Beach, California. Here, I have explored and what’s more, made more friends and learned that maybe I could be a writer if that’s what I want to do! I’ve also realised that the world is huge. Even California is bigger than I could have imagined, and whilst there is no way that I can explore every inch of the world, I will definitely endeavour to try. I’d like to think I got here on my own, but it will always go back to my parents who supported all my dreams and have shown me not only Europe and America, but also parts of Asia and Africa. They are the kindest people in the world, and for that, I can take no credit.
My love for the world is one of the most important things to me. Disney Princesses have always strived for adventure, so I decided that I could too! I want to live everywhere and do everything and write everything I can about it. It might not be the most evident from this post, but I love to write – sometimes I’m even pretty good at it! I have learned this year about writing novels, short stories and even plays, all of which whilst listening to the mad soundtrack combination of indie songs, Disney songs, musical theatre and a lot of Taylor Swift. Figuring out the things you love and unabashedly loving them even when no one else does is one of the biggest parts of being the best version of yourself and through doing this you can find people you actually have things in common with, in the most unexpected of places.
Living your best life, for me, is just being grateful for what you have and learning to embrace everything you love, no matter what anyone thinks.
